An unfounded domestic violence complaint turned into a search and seizure operation in which hundreds of cloned bank cards, passports and other contraband were seized in Table View, the Hawks said on Friday.
Regional spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said two suspects were arrested in Thursday’s raid.
Officers responded to a domestic violence complaint, which was "said to be negative".
"On their way back to the station, they received a tip-off alerting them that the same address had always been a hive of suspicious activities.
"They returned and carried out a search and seizure operation and almost 700 suspected cloned bank cards, seven point of sale devices, a .22 rifle with ammunition, several passports, IDs and driver's licenses, electronic equipment including computers as well as four grams of cocaine were seized."The Hawks were called to the scene to "undertake further investigations which is aimed at disentangling the pair’s alleged unlawful activities broadly”.Ramovha said there were signs that the syndicate could be operating nationally.The two suspects, aged 30 and 31, were set to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Monday, with charges of forgery, and fraud expected to be added.News24
