A FIGHT between school kids from neighbouring villages has left parents angry and worried.
As a result, a boy’s initiation was put on hold and he was rushed to hospital with a bleeding head.
Now people in Bulembu Village, near King William’s Town, want to take their kids out of Zukhanye Senior Secondary School. They want action from the Eastern Cape education department after boys from two villages clashed after school.
Schoolboy Xolisa Matushe (18) is in Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane after a blow to his head.
The kids clashed on Tuesday last week, a day when Zukhane Senior Secondary School pupils were writing final exams.
After writing his exam, Xolisa changed into traditional clothes to go to traditional school. Boys and girls held a farewell ceremony for him, singing traditional songs.
That’s when boys from Mzantsi village reportedly attacked the boys of Bulembu. Xolisa was rushed to hospital.
Xolisa’s upset gogo Nokhanyiso Jantjies (62) said: “We sent our kids to school to build their future.
“Now my grandson is in hospital!”
A bhuma had been built and was ready for Xolisa and another boy who were due to be circumcised.
Andile Jantjies (62) said that the initiation school decided the other boy wouldn’t be kept waiting for Xolisa as somebody had to stay in the bhuma. “It could become cursed if it stands empty.
“After Xolisa is discharged he will go straight to circumcision.”
Education spokesman Mali Mtima said: “We will talk to parents.”
- Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa said police were investigating a case of assault. Four boys aged 17 to 18 were bust and were out on warning. They will appear in the Dimbaza Magistrates Court.
