UKHOZI FM presenter Khathide “Tshatha” Ngobe set social media abuzz on Tuesday when he posted a photo of two young women in revealing outfits.

The women, whose identities are not known, had their picture taken at Eyadini Lounge in Umlazi, south of Durban, and Ngobe sparked a heated debate by criticising their choice of clothing.

He wrote in isiZulu on his Facebook page: “What women need to know is, if you wear clothes like this, men get tempted and want to get you into bed.

“If you think they will consider getting married to you or paying lobola, think again. These girls are beautiful, but the way they are dressed ruins their image.”

The post got over 1 800 comments and many accused Ngobe of supporting the harassment of women.

  • Mlungisi “Phaks” Phakathi wrote: “I love how these ladies are dressed. I’d marry either of them. I don’t think it’s anyone’s job to police a woman’s dress code.”
  • Nomthandazo Bindela said: “This is absolute bull s**t. She could be wearing a long skirt and guys would still drool over her.”
  • Lindour Boothelezie wrote: “I’m disturbed that there’s something a woman could wear that potentially attracts rapists. The actual problem is with men who can’t control their sexual urges.”
  • Scelo Myeza commented: “You can only go to bed with these women. You can’t get married to them.”
  • Eyadini Lounge owner Jabulani Nzama, better known as MJ, said: “If he thinks that about women, I don’t know what to say.

“I think his comments prove he doesn’t respect women.”

Ukhozi FM programmes manager Zandile Tembe said she couldn’t say anything because the comments were not made on air.

Tshatha said he does not know the women in the picture.

“I was just voicing my opinion and didn’t mean to harm anyone. What I wrote was not meant for the girls in the picture,” said Tshatha.

He said he had already apologised on his page because he realised some women had taken offence.
