AFTER performing around Mzansi for 16 years, the Kings of Melody have finally stepped into the studio.
Gabriel Makwe, Joey Ndlovu and Lunga Zunguhave been in the music industry since 2002.
Their music is a combination of Afro pop, house and reggae.
Vocalist Gabriel said they were brought together by their love of music.
“I love music because it’s in my blood,” he said.
As a solo artist, Gabriel has been in the music industry for over 20 years.
He released his debut album, Kaalkop, in 1995.
“I am inspired by musicians like Bob Marley. When I was still a kid, I wanted to be like Jimi Hendrix and Louis Armstrong,” he said.
He met his fellow band members shortly after he released his second album, That’s My Style, in 2000.
“We met at a concert in Vosloorus,” he said.
Last year the band released two singles, Papa Spokes and Please Don’t Go.
The band will release an eight-track album next month.
“Being a musician is a career like no other. Age is just a number in the music industry. Brook Benton was still making music when he died and we plan to do the same.”
