QUEEN of Gqom music Babes Wodumo is spitting fire!
This is after she came back empty-handed from the 23rd annual Sama awards held in Sun City over the weekend. Her partner, Mampintsha of Big Nuz, is just as pissed off.
“It’s become obvious that awards are bought and not earned in SA,” she said.
“How can my song trend for a whole year and not win any award?
“I came into this industry and made a big impact. I’m even nominated for an international BET award but here at home I haven’t even received one award. It doesn’t make sense. Stop playing with us. Carry on buying those awards.”
Mampintsha – whose real name is Mandla Maphumulo – said: “F**k all these awards in Mzansi, they are undermining us! You’re jealous of West Ink Records and you’re jealous of Babes. All these record companies are busy coughing out money for awards. F**k this s**t!”
RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said it is understandable for artists to feel disappointed after not winning.
“The Samas are album-based and go through a robust judging system by a panel of experts who listen to the music submitted. The results are audited and winners are selected.
“Unfortunately Babes did not get the nod this time but she should not be discouraged,” he said.
Melody Mhlongo of West Ink Records said Babes and Mampintsha meant every word.
“They both said what they felt and mean it,” she said.
