Mamelodi Sundowns left back Lyle Lakay had spent last season on loan at Cape Town City.
Despite signing a new two-year deal at Masandawana, which means that potentially he could remain at the club until June 2025, his future with the league champions could still be in the balance.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, it seemed that his days at the Chloorkop based side were numbered.
Now, Siya sources privy to information have indicated that the Brazilians are expected to release Lakay and SuperSport United are supposedly ready to pounce on him.
The source added that Coach Gavin Hunt, who introduced Lakay to the PSL while at SuperSport United in 2009, might want to reunite with his former defender.
"You know that Onismor Bhasera is retiring and taking up a coaching job with the team in the junior ranks so they want Lakay to replace him," said the Siya source.
"They are looking at his experience because they will be playing in Africa as well. They are one of the four teams who will play in all the tournaments this coming season and to do that, they need a well balanced team.
"That's why they are looking at bringing in Lakay. He has the experience of playing in Africa as well which is good for the team," the source said.
Another Siya source indicated that Sundowns may feel that they have enough ammunition in the left back position with Aubrey Modiba, Terrence Mashego and Sifiso Ngobeni all fighting for that position.
"Sundowns feels like they don't need him now as they have enough players competing in that position. The three they have are enough to cover each other and that's why they even loaned (Lakay) out last season.
"Yes, he still had two years left on his contract until 2025 but they can buy him out and release him as long as they are sure they don't need him which is the case right now," added the source.

The 31-year-old former Bafana Bafana defender, who has also played for Bloemfontein Celtic in the past, joined Sundowns from Cape Town City and has since played 103 games, scoring eight goals in the process and winning four league titles along the way amongst other trophies.
When contacted, SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews did not answer his phone and Sundowns media and communications department could not be reached at the time of preparing this story.
