According to the BBC, six people, including police officers and organisers, are set to be charged with criminal negligence causing death, which is said to carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
Last weekend, in a derby between Arema and Persebaya Surabaya, thousands of fans rushed the pitch, leading to clashes with police, who seemingly let off tear gas in response.
As supporters attempted to flee the stadium through the exits, at least 131 people were killed in a deadly stampede, among them children. The publication reports that more than 320 people were injured in the incident.
The local chief of police in Malang was fired, while nine other officers were suspended, with the investigation into the disaster still ongoing.
Police chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo has told media that two of the officers facing charges told their colleagues to fire tear gas before panic ensued at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.
It is believed that more than 180 people lost their lives in the incident, although the names of only 131 victims were officially released earlier this week.
