Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has made a huge announcement regarding his international career with Argentina ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

At 35 years old, it was largely expected that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner would be competing in his final World Cup with the Albiceleste later this year, but it has since been confirmed by Messi himself.
Speaking in a recent interview with Sebastian Vignolo, the ex-Barcelona captain said he has made the decision that Qatar will be his last World Cup, having previously participated in the tournament on four occasions.
"This will be my last World Cup, for sure. The decision has been made," he said.
Messi made his World Cup debut in the 2006 edition in Germany, and has since made 19 appearances in the tournament across three more versions.
The PSG No. 30 also admitted he is feeling nervous ahead of Qatar, and that he believes Argentina should not be considered favourites.
"I'm counting days for the World Cup, there is a little anxiety and nerves of wanting it to be already," he added.
"I don't think Argentina are top favourites, because there are some teams who are above us, but we will fight against anyone."
Going into the competition, Messi is seven World Cup matches away from becoming the player who has played the most games in the tournament's history, with Lothar Matthaus currently the record holder on 25.

The World Cup in Brazil in 2014 was the closest the Argentina No. 10 came to lifting the prestigious trophy, with the South American giants suffering a 1-0 defeat to Germany in extra-time of the final.
