Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has provided his thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo's performance in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night after the ex-Real Madrid talisman missed several big chances.
'Messi Shouldn't Spoil His Barca Legacy Like Ronaldo Did At Man Utd'
From the perspective of many fans, it was a night to forget for Ronaldo, who completed 90 minutes as United defeated Omonia Nicosia 3-2 in a come-from-behind victory in Cyprus in the Europa League on Thursday.
Ronaldo squandered a goalscoring chance from just metres out as he struck the post, with just one of his seven attempts at goal going on target on the night.
While his teammates desperately tried to help him reach his 700th club goal, the former Juventus forward did everything but get the ball over the line, including picking up an assist for Marcus Rashford's second strike in the tie.
Ten Hag, however, was impressed with his run that took defenders with him to create space in the build-up to Rashford's opening goal.
"I think the first two [shots he had produced] good saves from the goalie," the 52-year-old told club media, according to the Daily Express.
"He had a couple of chances, also he created a couple of chances.
"He was in for a good move and run for the first goal with Marcus Rashford, so he had an impact in this game."
'We Quickly Dismissed The Idea Of Signing Ronaldo'
Ronaldo has scored just one goal in nine outings this season so far for the Red Devils.
