This past weekend, Lecce and Hellas Verona were both trying to move as far away from the relegation zone as possible when they met in the Italian top division.

Verona entered the match in the bottom three, but fortunately for them, a goal courtesy of Michael Folorunsho gave them the three points to move above their opponents into 13th position.

Following an intense match-up between the two Serie A strugglers, the hostilities did not end after the referee blew the final whistle as emotions erupted as soon as the match concluded.

Verona striker Thomas Henry was seen arguing with Lecce defender Marin Pongracic after the game had ended when Lecce coach Roberto D'Aversa went over in an apparent attempt diffuse the argument, but instead ended up knocking the Frenchman over with a headbutt.

"Next Saturday we have another big match [against Salernitana] and I didn't want my players to be banned," D'Aversa explained afterwards, as per ESPN.

"So I went out to try and separate them from the opponents and then the incident with Henry happened.

"I've already apologised to Verona's management. As a coach and father of three kids, I want to apologise for what happened."
