The top two nations heading into the competition's 34th edition, Morocco and Senegal, both failed to make it beyond the round of 16, but they both still remain atop of the continent's ranking.
While many may have expected a final between the two, it was the host nation Ivory Coast and Nigeria who contested for the main prize in Abidjan, with the Elephants triumphing and moving level with the Super Eagles on three AFCON title triumphs.
The west African duo both move into Africa's top five as Nigeria usurped Egypt into third place, while the newly crowned continental champions completing the top five.

North Africa's poor showing at the AFCON is reflected in the drop of both Algeria and Tunisia, whose group-stage exits have seen them lose their places among Africa's top five nations. The Carthage Eagles are now in sixth position, while the Desert Foxes occupy seventh spot.
