A Manchester United star is now reportedly holding off on a decision to represent England amid interest from one of Africa's biggest footballing nations.

The Red Devils are currently enjoying a good run of form as they are unbeaten in their past six games in all competitions, with five wins and one draw.

Following a turbulent back-end to 2023, United have now climbed up to sixth on the Premier League table, six points adrift of the Champions League places.

There have been a few standout names during this fruitful period for Erik ten Hag's side, with Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo hailed as their top performers in recent weeks.

The latter is perhaps garnering the most attention given that he is just 18 years old and has already earned himself 10 Premier League starts this season.

While his future at Old Trafford is not in any doubt as his current contract runs until June 2027, his international football prospects have now come under the spotlight amid interest from two nations.

According to the Daily Mail, Mainoo has decided to hold off on a decision as whether or not he will agree to represent England at senior international level.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate is said to be keeping tabs on the teenager, with the tactician having been in the stands during United's 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Ghana are believed to have already expressed their interest in the midfielder, who was born in the United Kingdom to Ghanaian parents.

Mainoo has represented England at various youth levels, though, and the English federation is said to be confident of retaining his services at senior level.

It is understood the teenager is in no rush to make the call as he wants to first strengthen his position in Ten Hag's starting line-up instead.
