Lyle Foster has four goals and three assists in the Premier League for Burnley so far this season.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has revealed why Lyle Foster was left out of the team for their most recent clash against Liverpool.

The Clarets' hope of staying in the Premier League took another blow this past weekend at Anfield, when they were despatched 3-1 by the Reds thanks to goals from Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez, while Dara O'Shea scored the only strike for the visitors.

Burnley thus remain in the relegation zone as they have now lost 17 of their 24 Premier League games this season.

Matters were made worse by the fact that fellow relegation strugglers, 20th-placed Sheffield United, equalled their 13 points tally after they beat Luton Town on the same day, leaving Burnley in19th spot on the table on goal difference.

For the clash against Liverpool, Foster was a notable absentee from Kompany's side, who have scored the second-least number of goals so far in the English top flight in this campaign.

Asked about the South African striker's omission against Jurgen Klopp's men, the Belgian coach offered a sharp response.

"Muscle injury, so we'll see," Kompany responded, according to the Burnley Express.

The 23-year-old missed a month's worth of football, five matches in all, from November to December 2023, when he was confirmed to have been struggling with his mental health.

His unfortunate absence was met with many messages of support, with some of the club's fans evening joining a movement called #MileForLyle, which encouraged people to take good care of their mental health.

Unfortunately, the centre-forward would also go on to miss out on an opportunity to be part of the Bafana Bafana squad that claimed an iconic bronze medal at the recently-concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
