Former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez has now officially secured a return to European football, having joined the ninth club of his career.

The Colombian playmaker has joined Olympiacos on a loan deal from Qatar side Al-Rayyan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Greek side will cover €2 million (R34 million) of the 31-year-old's €6 million (R104 million) annual salary during his stay in Piraes.

Rodriguez had gone public with his desire for an exit from Al-Rayyan, which left the Qataris in a difficult situation as he still has two years left on his current contract.

The loan move sees the Colombia international reunite with his former Los Blancos teammate Marcelo, who joined the Greek side earlier in September.

Rodriguez was reportedly close to joining Galatasaray after agreeing to make the move to Turkey, but his wages proved a stumbling block.

The South American will now represent the ninth club of his professional career, having previously had spells with the likes of Real, Bayern Munich, Everton, FC Porto, and AS Monaco.
