With Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante's contract set to expire at the end of the season, one of the Blues' biggest Premier League rivals have emerged as top contenders to land the Frenchman's signature.

The 31-year-old has had to contend with a number of injuries in the past two seasons, and has featured in just two matches since the start of the current campaign.

His latest setback, a hamstring injury, means he will miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup with France as he is only expected to make a return to action in early 2023.

While he continues to be sidelined, Kante's contract situation has been the subject of many reports, with some claiming he could be on his way out of the club as Chelsea are reluctant to hand him a new deal given his regular appearances on the medical treatment table of late.

FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been mooted as potential next destinations ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, but it has now emerged that the 2018 World Cup winner could join another team in London instead.

According to the Daily Express, Tottenham Hotspur are seriously interested in the former Leicester City star, with manager Antonio Conte said to be desperate to reunite with the deep-lying playmaker, having worked with him at Stamford Bridge between 2016 and 2018.

With contract talks believed to still be ongoing, journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Graham Potter's side could lose Kante on a free transfer.

This has become a bit of a trend for the west Londoners, having lost two key defenders, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, for nothing in the most recent transfer window.

Kante has been a remarkable servant of the club, having won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup titles, as well as the 2017 Premier League Player of the Season award in Chelsea colours.
