Being one of the first stars in the DStv Premiership to showcase the adidas' Al Rihla World Cup Pack, Sekhukhune United skipper Linda Mntambo is set for a vicarious experience of Qatar. Here's more!

The story

It is bitterly unfortunate that the South African national football team will not be competing at the grand showpiece this year. However, many can sense a bit of excitement in the air as we proceed closer to the kick-start of the tournament at the dazzling Al Bayt Stadium in the City of Al Khor on 20 November.

Many nations have already unveiled their kits for the competition and this now seems to be the case for the boots that your favourite stars will be wearing. Boots and boots design are an understated feature of the event because who can forget France legend Zinedine Zidane's gold adidas Predator in 2006 in Germany? Or, the adidas F50 boots at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa worn by the likes of Spaniard David Villa and Diego Forlan from Uruguay? Or, what about the black and white coloured boots at the Brazil World Cup in 2014?

It seems clear that this is a feature that cannot be slept on about the tournament, and the three stripes company have now unveiled their special boot pack for the event called the Al Rihla World Cup Pack. The series comprises three boots, the  X Speedportal, Predator Edge, and Copa Sense.

Mntambo will be wearing his preferred Copa Sense, as he unveiled the boot this week after he went to the adidas store alongside his former teammate Thulani Hlatshwayo of SuperSport United. They seemed to be there to shop for some goods as they had branded paper-bags filled with items.

What is understood to be unique about the 33-year-old's Copa Sense is that it provides superior comfort with soft studs and touchpods for brilliant ball control. It makes real sense given that it will be worn by Spanish sensation Pedri in Qatar. And maybe, you can liken the former Orlando Pirates attacker to the young FC Barcelona playmaker in one or two ways.

Design director at the German sportswear manufacturer, Franziska Loeffelmann explained the inspiration behind the Al Rihla World Cup Pack, per Fibre2Fasion.

“For this special tournament and the biggest stage in sport, we wanted to capture the essence of speed and movement in reflection of the pace at which the modern game is played. With players showcasing what some see as impossible movement, we imagined the future of fast with the Al Rihla World Cup boot pack, bringing it to life with the same vibrant iridescence as the Al Rihla Official Match Ball to encapsulate the magic on the pitch at the FIFA World Cup 2022 and beyond,” said Loeffelmann.
