Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan is set to appear in a new FIFA film where he opens up about that dreadful penalty miss at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, which has in a way haunted him and many Africans for years. Here's a look!

The story

The biggest stage of football has been set and 32 teams will begin their quest to becoming world champions. Just under two weeks remain before the tournament gets underway and there are also some big plots brewing.

One suggestion is that it is finally time Brazil to assert their dominance at the showpiece and claim their sixth title largely due to the fact that they boast a stacked and star-studded squad, which is arguably their first golden generation in many years.

There is also the storyline of Qatar 2022 being Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's last appearance at a World Cup. Some of the talk has centred around the fact that it is the Argentine's last good shot at winning the trophy thanks to the plethora of talent Albiceleste now have in their squad, as well as the fact that they are unbeaten in 35 games heading into the event.

The talk in relation to Africa is that reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal look the most likely to advance from the groupstage, given they have been placed in Group A alongside hosts Qatar, Ecuador, and the Netherlands.

However, Ghana's performance in the group stage will be more under the spotlight and many are keenly anticipating their group fixture against Uruguay. The history of the fixture is a painfully memorable moment for many Ghanaians and Africans, as Gyan's awful penalty miss remains one of the most dramatic moments at a World Cup.

Filmmaker Ramon Mellett, announced on Tuesday via Instagram that he played a small role in filming a part of the FIFA docuseries titled ‘The Long Walk’ which looks at every iconic and emotional moment in World Cup Football, that has involved penalties.

The film covers an in-depth reflection of the moment and the trauma and emotion it brought to Gyan and his country.

Perhaps some still think of what it could've been had the Black Stars' marksman converted his penalty. Had the situation turned out differently, Ghana would've become the first African nation to make it into the semi-finals and it would have been particularly special given that such would have happened on South African soil.
