Small and intimate. That's how events are getting back into the swing of things since the start of the pandemic and this year's 14th Annual Crown Gospel Awards were no different.

Unlike other years where fans could scream and shout outside the ceremony while taking selfies, due to the pandemic, ceremony was restricted to a limited number of guests. This year men and women of the cloth, believers, sinners, and artists gathered for a live recording at The Playhouse Theatre in Durban.

Hosted by Pastor and artist Khaya Mthethwa, the highly anticipated event hosted Gospel industry greats who dazzled in their high-end fashion, ball gowns, and stylish suits.

Founder and Executive producer of the awards, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule’s opening speech honoured all nominees these years.

Amongst the guests were gospel greats Takie Ndou, Ayanda Ntazi, Nqobi Nxumalo, Puleng Maake, Nthati Moshesh, Harriet Manamela, Sandile Dlamini, McDonald Ndou, Dr. Tumi, Amadodana AseWesile, and Qwabe Twins to name a few. Zanele tells Drum that having lasted this long in a tough industry is a blessing.

“Fourteen awards in and we are elated to have reached this milestone and we thank God for carrying us thus far,” she says.

“Through the Crown Gospel Music Awards we have not only been able to celebrate artists but we created a platform where musicians can be recognized for their God-given talent.”

Gospel fans can watch the awards ceremony on SABC 2 at 20:00 on 28 November 2021.
