His name was not mentioned, but South Africans matched the description by Gogo Skhotheni to the most famous polygamist in the country right now: Musa Mseleku.

Gogo Skhotheni appeared on an episode of Podcast and Chill with Mac G. And on the episode, she was asked how one can identity someone othwele (does sacrifices to get money).

If someone is a polygamist and has more than three wives, and one of the wives does not have children, that may be sign of ukuthwala, she said.

Musa is married to four women, and his third wife, Thobile, has been vocal that she cannot have children.

When Drum contacted Musa he seemed unfazed.

He says this is not the first time it has been insinuated that uthwele.

“That does not bother me at all. I am not offended because I know my truth,” he says.

“My only problem is that a woman can reduce another woman’s pain to a money-making scheme. I would think that women, more than anyone would be sympathetic to another woman’s struggle. What married woman does not want to have children of their own?

“This just goes to show how much of hypocrites women can be. Women can choose to be hurtful to another, unprovoked. Women struggling to have children does not only happen in is’thembu. It can happen to anyone. I am not offended, I only feel pain that my wife can be subjected to this.”

Musa says for him, polygamy is not about making money.

“Anyone who has followed me long enough will know that I started talking about is’thembu as a child, nine years old. I used to talk about it with my grandmother, whom I draw inspiration from. This is a greater vision from the ancestors, not about money.

“I know my name was not mentioned, but obviously the description was there for people to start talking. Without sounding arrogant, we cannot run away from the fact that I am an influential person. If anyone wants to trend, get attention or get relevance, it’s easy to get those things just by talking about me.

“I am not taking this seriously, because it is not the first time that anyone has said it. And I do not have to respond to anything to validate anyone. The person who said that is nothing to me. What is important is that my family know about our businesses and how we make money, and they can account for everything.

“My only issue is my wife’s struggle being dragged into it all. But I guess I signed up for this when I made my family life public. I just wish people did not make a mockery of a serious issue.”
