The pressure is increasing as they draw closer to the finale.

There are only just two weeks left before the Idols SA season 18 winner is crowned.

In the last week, the top four contestants enjoyed a coastal adventure in Cape Town.

After over 15 million viewer votes this week, Mpilo, Nozi, and Thapelo made the cut, seeing Ty Loner’s journey on the show coming to an end.

With high spirits and nerves filling the room at the Heartfelt Arena in Tshwane, the finalists performed three songs each.

For their first song, contestants performed their very first audition songs.

The second round saw them performing classic diva hits, and the final songs were chosen by the judges Thembi Seete, Somizi Mhlongo, and JR Bogopa.

Nozi kicked things off with Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.’s Best Part which Somizi described as original.

“It was like we were at your concert, and you sang it like Nozi would sing it,” Somizi says.

Her next song was Aretha Franklin’s Try a Little Tenderness, which JR called “spectacular”. Her final song was Andra Day’s Rise Up, and Thembi praised her saying, “You’ve proven yourself week after week. You understand that this is a competition.”

Mpilo’s first song was Maleh’s Ke Mo Afrika, with JR saying, “You are unmatched and are one of the best vocalists in the country.”

For her second song, she took on Angel of Mine by Monica, a performance Thembi called “amazing”.

Mpilo’s final showing of the night was Jill Scott’s A Long Walk and Somizi says, “There’s one thing you have that not a lot of people have, stage presence and charisma.”

Thapelo revisited his first audition song by Kelly Khumalo titled Esphambanweni, which saw Thembi calling him “gifted”.

He followed with Michael Bolton’s rendition of When a Man Loves a Woman, which impressed Somizi.

“Just because you’ve got a great voice, it doesn’t mean your vocals fit in every genre.”  Thapelo then closed the show with Luther Vandross’s So Amazing.

“You spoke to a lot of people’s souls, but it wasn’t the most punchy or powerful. It got the job done,” JR says.

The Idols SA season 18 finale is nearing and the top three will be recording their solo singles produced by Kalawa Jazmee.

Tickets to be in the audience for the Idols SA live shows are now on sale on Computicket (https://tickets.computicket.com) at R20 per ticket and R40 for a golden ticket. Performances will take place at Tshwane’s Heartfelt Arena.
