PRIVACY on social media networks is never guaranteed, except for WhatsApp.
It is set to roll out new features to help protect the privacy of users. As announced by Meta recently, which is the parent company for WhatsApp, the new privacy features will allow users to:
- Leave WhatsApp groups silently.
- Choose who can see their online presence.
- Block screenshots for view-once messages.
“We hope people enjoy getting to use these new features and benefit from several options that help you keep your messages secure,” Meta said.
These three updates are expected this month and will play a vital role in enhancing the already existing privacy mechanisms on the app.
And as much as this is a huge stepping stone, some users are not impressed.
Tech It Out asked SunReaders what they thought about the features.
Most people said the messaging app was turning into GB WhatsApp.
This illegally modified version offers extraordinary features that the original app does not have, but privacy is not guaranteed as it does not have security checks in place.
SunReaders voiced out their opinions on Facebook.
Jack Moses Bambiso said: “This is already happening on FM WhatsApp and GB WhatsApp. We want privacy on Facebook about our photos and personal information.”
Lehlohonolo Franchescho Nobo wrote: “The good news is that you can remove yourself in your group chat without them noticing.”
With that said, it remains to be seen how the app will evolve in the future.
