IF you ever felt like your privacy has been invaded on WhatsApp, worry not because new updates are being rolled out.
The Meta-owned social media app announced on Tuesday, 9 August that it was bringing new privacy features to give users more control over their messages.
WhatsApp, which boasts about 20 billion monthly active users, has pre-existing security features with default end-to-end encryption to help users protect themselves.
The new features will allow users to:
- Leave groups silently:
Instead of notifying other group members that you have exited the group, only the admin will be notified. This attention-seeking feature will be rolled out to all users this month.

- Choose who can see when you are online:
This feature will allow users to keep their online presence private, and it is also expected to be available to all users this month.
- Screenshot blocking for view once messages:
Meta is also working on rolling out a feature which will block screenshots on view once messages as an added layer of protection. The feature is currently in a testing process and will be available at a later stage.
“We hope people enjoy getting to use these new features and benefit from several options that help you keep your messages secure,” Meta said in a statement.
