JOB hunting is an exhausting process which comes with plenty of ups and downs.
Searching for a job without internet access is a reality which many youngsters are faced with in Mzansi.
In a bid to curb this, Mzamo Mbhele, who is an IT software development student at Mangosuthu University of Technology, has developed a job-hunting app, which does not require data to access.
Speaking to Tech It Out, the 22-year-old said he built the app called Job X to help young people like him to find jobs.
“I decided to create Job X because of how costly it was job hunting with internet cafe fees and many trips for CV drop-offs. With Job X, you no longer need to travel to drop off a CV or need to visit the internet cafe for CV drafting or file scanning,” said Mzamo.
“Developing and launching the app cost about R8 000 funded by my cupcake business which I have on campus. Thanks to the power of social media. The app quickly gained 10 000 users in the first week.”
The third-year student said he spent six months developing the app then launched in November 2021.
The app allows users to:
- Search for jobs near them based on their qualifications and desired jobs’ specifications.
- Build professional CVs and save them as PDFs.
- Scan their documents using their phone camera and save them as PDFs.
The app boasts over 45 000 downloads on Google Play. It’s not yet available on the IOS App store.
Mzamo said he became fascinated with technology at the age of 11 to the point where he was the go-to guy when it comes to cellphone repairs in his kasi.
“The biggest challenge for me is convincing investors that despite my age, I am capable of developing products that can make a huge impact. I advise young developers to grow their skill to ensure that when they work on developing solutions, they can build best products,” he said.
Mzamo plans to push the app beyond the shores of Mzansi.
