DESPERATE job seekers must watch out for scammers, especially during the festive season.
This is the warning from Bushbuckridge Mayor Sylvia Nxumalo.
She said the municipality has been receiving many calls, complaints and enquiries following the resurfacing of fake municipal job adverts.
“The victims receive calls from the perpetrators telling them about an application they either made or can’t recall making, and assuring them a job placement in the municipality if they pay an amount of money,” she said.
“These fake job recruitment agents use fake municipal email addresses, fake municipal employment forms and cellphone numbers. The municipality doesn’t make or use job recruitment agents for job recruitment and warn the public to stay away from any communication demanding bribes in exchange for jobs and to report this kind of criminal activity to the police.”
Nxumalo said all municipal job opportunities are advertised on local, regional and national newspapers as well as the municipal website and its social media platforms.
“The fake municipal job agents are resurfacing and have caused distress to their victims in the past, especially desperate and vulnerable jobseekers. The municipality is urging those who have already fallen victim and those that may have been contacted to report such incidents to their nearest police station.”
