“W e are the children. We are young, too vulnerable and innocent.” This is a cry from our children.
The kidnapping and killing of six-year-old Bontle Mashiyane affected many South Africans.
Our communities face this daily where children are kidnapped, raped and killed.
Sometimes their little bodies are mutilated for muthi purposes and buried in shallow graves.
This is bad. Imagine if this were to happen to your own child.
This is not an isolated incident. Many children have been abducted and killed for different purposes.
It’s sad that our children are not safe even at school or in their own homes.
They get abducted anywhere and at any time of the day.
I think security measures need to be beefed up in our schools.
Cameras should also be installed on busy roads and police visibility be prioritised.
Our communities should be part of the solution and report suspects before they hit.
Surely, someone will know before something happens because the killers are the people we live with.
Let’s keep our kids safe.

) One of the things we need not forget when it comes to the safety of children is that it should start at home first, Godfrey.
It’s clear that we now live in different times as compared to some few years ago.
The reality is that the spirit of ubuntu and the notion that it takes a village to raise a child are fast fading.
It’s clear that everyone is now an enemy to the kids as they can be hurt by their own relatives or neighbours.
So, as a parent, pay particular attention to your kids like a hen over its chicks.
