IT'S always a beautiful moment when a couple brings a bundle of joy into this world.

Happiness becomes the order of the day in the couple's life, and everything is great until a sour moment comes knocking.

Some parents think that having kids give them the right to do whatever they want with them. Well, in most cases, kids are caught in the crossfire when uthando lwabazali takes a turn for the worse.

In revenge, parents and even stepparents inflict pain on their spouses by hurting the same kids who once made them happy. Hurt is an understatement in this regard, kill may be just the right word.

Many parents who can't handle rejection from their partners become furious and find themselves killing their own kids to make a statement to their partners. Well, with or without parents, these kids deserve to live.

One sad story is that of a 41-year-old dad from Mapakophele Village in Mphephu, Limpopo, who allegedly killed his two sons with a panga and then hanged himself.

The bodies of the dad and his two sons were discovered in bushes on Tuesday morning, 26 September. The man was hanging by his neck from a tree while the two boys, aged four and seven, were lying nearby with open wounds on their bodies.

According to a witness who spoke to Daily Sun, the kids' mum lived in Mapakophele Village, not far from Tshituni Village, where the father lived with one of the boys.

The other story is of a monster husband from Gauteng who couldn't  stand the fact that his wife wanted to leave him. The man became angry and violent. He stabbed his wife and two kids to death, and injured a relative.

The man from Diepkloof in Soweto will now pay for his sins behind bars. He was sentenced to three life terms and 15 years imprisonment after he was convicted of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

All these incidents suggest that anger plays a big role in these acts, which result in innocent kids being killed by people who are supposed to protect them. According to reports, the acts of parents killing their kids are not just starting now, but have been around for a long time.

A study published in 1969 by Dr Phillip Resnick on filicide (child killings),

These are five main motives, including:

  1. altruistic,
  2. fatal maltreatment,
  3. unwanted child,
  4. acutely psychotic and
  5. spousal revenge.

Altruistic is an act of showing a disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others.

He said that such killings happen because the parents believe that the world is too cruel for the child or because the kid is suffering (whether or not this is actually the case).

Dr Phillip added that in a fatal killing by abuse, the aim is not always to kill the child, but death can still happen anyway.

Another reason is revenge killing by a spouse, killing kids to indirectly harm the partner. All these reasons, a child can be killed by a parent who brought it into the world. But parents must remember that kids are also born to find their life path and chase their dreams, with or without them. No matter how tough the world may seem, please let the kids live, for they too are destined for great things in life.
