IT has been a busy weekend with travelers moving up and down to their destinations for the festive weekend.

But the mood was dampened for some when their luggage was left at OR Tambo Airport after there was some malfunction.

The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has since apologised to travelers for the luggage delay out of the airport between Friday, 22 December and Saturday, 23 December.

ACSA spokeswoman, Tshililo Manenzhe said due to a malfunction in the baggage sortation system in the domestic terminal, several bags could not be loaded onto the scheduled departing flights. She said this resulted in passengers not receiving their luggage when they arrived at their destination airport.

In other news, a truck carrying petrol and diesel exploded on the N2 north, near Edwin Swales Drive, south Durban, on Sunday, 24 December.

According to Road Traffic Inspectorate spokeswoman, Sindi Msimang, the driver said the trailer had a rear tyre burst which seemed to have caused the explosion.

She said it exploded because it conveyed multiple loads of fuel and diesel. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed.

Several funerals were held over the weekend, including that of Bulelwa "Zahara" Mkutukana, who was laid to rest on Saturday, 23 December.

Family members, friends and government officials gathered at the East London International Convention Centre for her funeral service.

On Sunday, 24 December, legendary reggae musician, Marisana Carlos Djedje (73) was laid to rest on at the Heroes Acre in the West Park Cemetery, Joburg.

The funeral service was held at Saulsville Arena in Tshwane.

Gloria Ramonyenyiwe (51), the daughter of the later legendary reggae musician, who died on Monday, 18 December, said they are still in great pain after losing their father.
