MZANSI is eager for President Cyril Ramaphosa to speak at his eighth State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Thursday, 8 February.
But they fear it may just be another speech of empty promises.
So, the SNL24 team took to the streets of Randburg, Braamfischerville, and Roodepoort and asked residents what they would like the president to address. Youth empowerment, unemployment, the electricity crisis and education were at the top of the list.
Sona was once regarded as a beacon of hope with anticipation that the president has measures in place to fix the current state of the country. The president will take this opportunity to inform the public about government’s priorities for 2024. It's also an opportunity to reflect on a wide range of political, economic, and social issues set out in the government’s plan of action.
Xolani Kiviet (36) said: “The president should focus on youth empowerment and ensure the youth are given enough skills to combat unemployment because we’re all struggling to create jobs.”

Motlatsi Ramatla (60) said: “The president should address the issue of load shedding because it's long overdue and it's affecting everybody.”
Esihle Gqojana (25) said: “The fact that many of us went to school and we’re qualified but there are no jobs is the main issue that the president should address.”
