THE red berets are left to sit out at this year’s State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Thursday, 8 February 2024 at the Cape Town City Hall where President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation from 7pm.
It's no secret that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) always have a way of deeply stirring the emotions of many Mzansi citizens during the Sona with their rebellious nature, leaving viewers entertained. This is due to the drama and sometimes spiteful criticisms that they use to feed the flame of Mzansi’s never-ending political drama.

EFF leader Julius Malema, deputy president Floyd Shivambu, secretary-general Marshall Dlamini, EFF spokesman Sinawo Thambo, and senior members of the party Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Vuyani Pambo are suspended from attending this year’s Sona following charges of contempt of parliament. They were banned after storming Ramaphosa's 2023 Sona.
We took to the streets of Randburg in Joburg and needless to say, Mzansi citizens are disappointed that they won’t be struck by the towering levels of drama at this year’s Sona as the actions of these EFF leaders at last year’s address have come back to bite them.
Nzuzo Flaweni said: "The Sona without the EFF will be boring cause it's only going to be a rant about empty promises that were never fulfilled for years."
Nsika Mazibuko said: "It's probably going to be a sitting of parliamentarians where what is being delivered won't have that same kind of engagement. The EFF's representation will be completely missed because not every South African will sit and watch the Sona. I understand the reasons why they were suspended but the EFF should be there because people voted for them to be there."
Thando Mchunu said: "Hopefully things operate in a good and functional manner without the members of the EFF but I highly doubt."
