THE leader of Democratic Alliance (DA), John Steenhuisen, said they are ready for the 2024 national elections.

He said his message to President Cyril Ramaphosa is that his party was ready for the elections.

"Our first priority will be to ensure that we appoint a cabinet of excellent people who are not compromised. We will order lifestyle audits for all senior members of government, cabinet ministers and all senior public officials to avoid corruption," he said.

Steenhuisen said he will pass the Employment Bill to ensure that the country transitions to a capable, corruption-free civil service that fulfils its duties and bring back the Scorpions to investigate crimes and corruption at the highest levels.

"We will quickly pass our devolution bills, aimed at devolving more powers to the provinces and capable local governments to eliminate things that the national government is doing very badly like public transport, trains, ports and harbours to achieve efficiency," Steenhuisen said.

He said they will ensure that the infrastructure is ready for growth and that the government has more money to invest.

"We want to grow more business and jobs opportunities for our people," he said.

Steenhuisen said there will be significant changes and policy approaches in making sure there's great accountability in parliament.

"We will give the parliament back its teeth to hold members of cabinet, the president, and deputy president accountable," he said.

"We want to create more businesses and jobs for our people."

Steenhuisen said there will be significant changes and policy approaches to ensure that there's great accountability in parliament.

He said there will be a devolution of policing to provincial, federal and the national police service, which will be responsible for certain tasks such as crime prevention and community safety.

Steenhuisen said they would immediately unbundle Eskom and open up the industry to private players and contractors to break the government's monopoly.

He said that the government should not manufacture weapons as private sector can do that.

"We will invest the money we have gained from fighting corruption and selling off the broken state institutions into real services for the people, such as housing, education and the abolition of pit toilets in South Africa," Steenhuisen said.

He also said he wanted to see more dams built and new infrastructure, including better management.

"We will introduce solar systems. Land grabbing is a big problem. We have failed to reform policies in the country. People are hungry for land and opportunities."

He said the real land hunger is in the urban areas as people want to have access to education and job opportunities.
