THE EFF picketed outside the Uganda High Commission and called for Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni not to sign the Anti-Homosexuality Bill.

Party members marched from Magnolia Park in Tshwane to the Embassy in Arcadia, Tshwane on Tuesday, 4 April.

According to the EFF's member of the central command team Yoliswa Yako, the picket is to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community of Uganda.

She said when one is oppressed, all of us are oppressed.

"We will show them a list of demands that we have and the list of concerns we have. We would not like Museveni to sign the bill into law," she said.

She also said they are calling the cabinet of Uganda to go through some sort of educational plan.

"I don't think they understand how deep hate crime goes when you try to discriminate a group of people based on who they are. We are trying to say educate yourself with what being LGBTQI+ is about. We are in 2023. We cannot have people who are oppressed," she said.

Yako said they are calling on Museveni not to sign the bill.

The EFF said the Anti-Homosexuality Bill contravenes the African Charter on Human and People's Rights, and calls on all progressive forces to stand in solidarity with the Ugandan LGBTQI+ community.
