THIS weekend was a little hectic.
Here's a quick rundown of some of the top stories you may have missed:
- Starting on Friday, 1 December, police with the help of SANDF bust more than 100 illegal miners at Primrose in Germiston, Ekurhuleni. Their equipment which they use in their illegal operations was seized. This was not only in Gauteng. The joint operation achieved the same results in Limpopo.
- In entertainment world, soccer legend Papi Khomane who died in a car accident on 25 November, along with his mum Nomasonto Khomane and his uncle Moffat Norman Nkosi, were laid to rest on Saturday, 2 December at Nasrec Memorial Park.
- On Saturday morning, South Africans woke up to the shocking news death of the former e.tv and SABC sports anchor and KZN government spokesman Jeffrey Zikhali. Zikhali was killed in an alleged hijacking incident on Friday night, 2 December.
- Also on Saturday morning, seven bodies were discovered in Diepsloot. The seven men were killed by a mob accusing them of terrorising the community. Six were burnt beyond recognition and only one victim, Katlego "Brave Maseven" Mphuti, was positively identified by his family.
- To a more shocking story, Border Management Authority (BMA) intercepted 42 buses coming to Mzansi carrying illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe on Saturday night, 2 December. Among the immigrants were 443 children under the age of eight. The buses were turned away along with the children and adults passengers. Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi commended the BMA for a job well done.
