BANNA Tshebetsong Men's Forum blames democracy for the senseless killings of women in Ficksburg, Free State.

This after a 30-year-old foreign national who lives in Zone 8 came to Ficksburg Police Station in tears, driving his VW sedan carrying the body of his wife in a passenger seat, claiming to report an alleged murder incident.

The couple, aged 30 and 23, allegedly had a heated argument while seated in their car at Meulspruit Dam a few kilometres outside Ficksburg on Friday, 1 December.

Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the wife told her husband that she was sick, and he got angry and assaulted her.

"In the process, she was stabbed with a sharp instrument in the neck and became unconscious inside the car. That's when the husband drove from the dam to the police station to report the incident."

"The Emergency Medical Services personnel was summoned to the police station and declared the woman dead," Mophiring said.

"Both the suspect's and the deceased's names are known, however, will only be released once their next of kin have positively identified the body of the deceased. A case of murder is being investigated. Both the sharp instrument together with the vehicle have been confiscated as part of the exhibit."

He said the suspect will appear in the Ficksburg Magistrates Court on Monday, 4 December, facing a charge of murder.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, 2 December, the body of a woman in her 30s was found at an open field near Ficksburg Correctional Services with stabbed wounds, and the suspect is unknown at this stage.

Mophiring said one of the officials from the correctional centre summoned the police to Veldt Street after they discovered a woman who was stabbed to death at the corner of their facility.

"The warder was on duty when he heard a woman screaming for help. He went outside of the office to inspect and saw a woman lying on the street and she was still alive. He summoned the ambulance, but the ambulance services did not arrive until the woman passed on. She was wearing a red dress and a black cap. Upon arrival of the Emergency Medical Services personnel, the woman was declared dead," he said.

The motive behind the killing is unknown, and the woman's name is known, but it can't be disclosed before her next of kin positively identify her body, relevant age and place of residence.

This is the third woman who has been brutally murdered in three days in Ficksburg.

Spokesman for Banna Tshebetsong Men's Forum Jeff Dikgang blamed democracy and unblessed marriages for a range of killings.

"Our democracy is too much. The perpetrators are fearless to kill because the prisons are the hotels with balanced diet food.

"We called on the Department of Home Affairs to restrict marriage processes to avoid unblessed marriages. Scores of marriages are being done without parents' blessings, hence we witness a range of gender-based violence and femicide," said Jeff.
