THE majority of matriculants finished their exams on Wednesday, 29 November.
And since then, many matriculants have been planning parties that could last until next week.
But Gauteng Department of Community Safety MEC, Faith Mazibuko, urged pupils to refrain from attending "pens down" parties as they pose a serious safety risk.
"Attending 'Pens Down' parties can have serious consequences as excessive alcohol consumption can lead to impaired judgement and reckless behaviour, increasing the likelihood of accidents and injuries.
"These parties also encourage misbehaviour and the use of illegal substances. Therefore, students are urged not to attend these parties," she said.
Mazibuko also urged parents and guardians to monitor their kids.

"You should know where your children are at all times and where they are moving around," Mazibuko said.
Mazibuko said police will also be on the ground to respond to criminal activities and ensure that regulations are adhered to.
But the excited pupils are not taking this warning kindly.
A matriculant said: "We've had a busy month with exams and now they don't want us to celebrate. It's really unfair. We know there are cases like this, but not everyone is like this. MEC, please, this is our moment."
Another matriculant said: "MEC please don't be like Pharaoh. Some of us are responsible."
Another pupil said they've been saving for the pens down party since June.
"It's sad that we cannot party freely."
