THE ANC’s eThekwini regional secretary, Bongumusa Nciki, and his bodyguard briefly appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court.

Nciki and the bodyguard, Ivan Khoza, appeared in court on Wednesday, 10 April, facing charges of reckless and negligent driving and having an unlicensed car.

The matter didn’t sit for long, as it was immediately postponed.

It was postponed for their lawyers to make representations to the Senior Public Prosecutor about the road traffic violation charges they face.

On their first appearance on 7 March, they were granted bail of R5000 each.

They were arrested in Durban north after they were caught by police on 6 March, allegedly driving a car with no number plates.

It's alleged that they were also carrying weapons without permits.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokeswoman, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, said the matter was remanded to 16 April.

She said Nciki and Khoza face charges of reckless driving, alternatively, disregard for a road traffic signal (a red traffic signal) and operating an unlicensed vehicle.

She said the state alleged that the men were driving along Lighthouse Road in Umhlanga on 6 March when they committed the offences.
