NINE people are lucky to be alive after a taxi they were traveling in skipped a robot and collided with another vehicle in Cape Town on Friday afternoon.
The incident happened close to the corner of Voortrekker Road and Jakes Gerwel Road in Goodwood leaving the nine occupants injured.
The traumatised driver of a Ford Ranger bakkie which collided with the taxi said the taxi driver didn’t stop at a red robot.
He said the taxi was driving from Cape Town to Bellville.
“He was driving at high speed, by the time he applied brakes it was already late. I was turning right after a green arrow indicated. As I was turning, a taxi came driving at high speed and crashed on to my car and the taxi overturned,” he said.
The driver said since he was not injured, he quickly called the cops and ambulance to the scene.

“The people inside the taxi were screaming as they feared for their lives. Other cars stopped and we wanted to assist but luckily firefighters arrived within five minutes and started helping the people who were trapped inside including the driver,” he said.
The Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Edward Bosch said his teams attended an accident on Friday afternoon.
“Just after 2 pm the City of Cape Town Fire & Rescue Service responded to a motor vehicle accident on Voortrekker Road, close to Jakes Gerwel Road in Goodwood. Upon arrival, the fire service found two vehicles in collision on the roadway.
"Crews assisted ER24 and Metro ambulance personnel to treat the patients. A total of nine patients sustained injuries. Ambulance services transported the patients to various hospitals," he said.
Megan Davids the spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) confirmed the incident.
"EMS and Rescue were dispatched. After medical assessment, EMS transported 3 patients to Vanguard CHC,” she said.
