A MOTORIST who was allegedly in possession of guns saw the men and women in blue on the road.
He then tried to evade the arrest and made a U-turn. But cops from Zonkizizwe in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni were on alert so a chase ensued.
According police spokeswoman Captain Neldah Sekgobela, cops were busy conducting their normal routine duties on Friday, 18 August when they spotted an unknown vehicle that was approaching.
She said: “When the driver saw the police, he suddenly made a U-turn. The police gave chase and after some few kilometres they managed to stop it. A search was conducted and two unlicensed 9mm pistols were recovered inside the suspect's vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms.”

She said the motorist was among 226 suspects that were arrested for various cases within the Ekurhuleni Policing precincts over the weekend, from Friday, 18 August to Sunday, 20 August.
Sekgobela said a total of 11 illegal liquor outlets shut down during the Operation Shanela.
In a separate incident, another firearm was recovered by members of the SAPS in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni. She said the preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm was involved in a cash-in-transit case which occurred in July 2023.
Sekgobela said the suspects were nabbed for cases such as possession and dealing in drugs, assault, being undocumented, selling liquor without licence, driving vehicles while under the influence of alcohol, theft, contravention of the secondhand goods and tempering with essential infrastructure.
The Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole commended the law enforcement agencies for their efforts in addressing the proliferation of unlicensed firearms in the district and achieving successful outcomes.
