MPUMALANGA'S prominent politician and businessman celebrated his birthday with the trupas.

The annual Mashilo Ditrupa Event was successfully hosted at Speed Mashilo Farm in Sun City in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga on Tuesday, 2 January.

Founder Speedy Mashilo expressed his happiness at the community's excitement, emphasizing that the event, which began in 2015, serves the purpose of bringing joy back to the community.

"We are removing children from the streets and giving them focus," he said.

He said old people love the event and are happy about it.

"This is part of my birthday celebration. I turned 58 on 27 December 2023 but decided to celebrate it on the 2 January with the community and children," he said.

Mashilo said each group got R3000 for participating, and everyone got food.

"I'm happy to bring such in the community. This is my baby," he said.

He said there were new dances showcased, and people gave it their all. He encouraged others to be part of the event. He said the event brings self-esteem.

Jonas Boshomane, the speaker of Nkangala District  Municipality, said they support the event as it is important and it prevents children from getting involved in crime.

"We are giving support for the value which it adds to the society like social cohesion and closing the social gap between the municipality and community," he said.

Eustina Bahula, a member of the S.Gomba trupa, expressed excitement, saying that he enjoyed himself.

"I'm excited to be part of the event and I enjoyed myself. We showcase our talent and learn from others," she said.

Ndzimandzima Mahlangu, representing Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa, said: "This event is encouraging and taking our children out of the streets. We are happy about such events in our community,"

Mpumalanga MEC for Finance and Economic Development and Tourism, Nompumelelo Hlophe, said the event is part of local tourism.

"I'm happy that this local event is promoting local tourism and we're planning to support it to grow bigger." she said.
