IT'S the season for the troopers.

And the excitement is in the air as the troopers prepare to entertain supporters.

On Saturday, 16 December, 10 groups from Makaunyane and surrounding areas came together at Jubilee Mall to strut their talents and compete for the title.

The troopers were judged on how well they strut their talent and presentation amongst others.

The winners, Shakers, were crowned champions after defending a title they won in 2022.

One of the participants, Otlotleng Leather (25), said she has been with her group for the past four years.

Otlotleng completed her matric in 2016 at Mankala Secondary School.

She said her love for ditrupa got her promoted to commander of the Young Stars, and she had been enjoying every moment of it.

"Being part of ditrupa makes you disciplined and focused."

The Young Stars has about 60 to 80 members.

Sello Letsoalo (45) said he was a member of Rolling Kids for 12 years, and the love ditrupa still lives in him.

"I often follow them around. I recently travelled to Makapan to watch groups as they compete," he said.

Mpho Makhubela (14) used to play soccer at home, but he has since developed a love for ditrupa. He's a grade 9 pupil at Hosia High School.
