GOGOS and mkhulus in Makapanstad, North West have a reason to celebrate every year.
The elderly expressed joy and happiness when celebrating the Diturupa Cultural Festival on 26 December, describing the event as special than Christmas Day.
The elderly said their ancestors are happy, knowing that they're carrying on with the legacy.
They said the festival is too close to their hearts and they've been celebrating the troopers for more than 70 years.
The elderly told Daily Sun that they started celebrating the annual Diturupa festival while they were still teenagers.
They said they're now teaching their children and grandchildren the culture and how it's celebrated.
The Se Godimo Cultural group has 40 members from the community.
Group member gogo Rose Mojanko (76) said she started celebrating the troopers at age 15.
She said this was so special to them than Christmas Day.

"We are teaching our children the culture and to take them out of the streets. We learnt this from our family members.
"I will only miss the celebration when I'm very sick. I've been part of the festival since I was 15 and have not missed it," Rose said.
Another member, Lobisa Sepeng (76) said: "This event fulfils my life. I still enjoy dancing and singing."
Another member, madala Andries Motepe (70), said he started celebrating at 20.
"This is our culture. This festival makes me happy. I love it because I'm showcasing my talent to other cultures."
He said this is a way of connecting with their ancestors and will continue keeping this legacy alive.
