ACTIONSA is pleased with the arrest of the suspect dealing in illegal drugs in Soweto.

The suspect was reportedly arrested on Thursday night, 13 July at his home in Zola.

This after the party embarked on a march and handed over a memorandum of demand at the Jabulani Police Station on 4 May demanding action over drug abuse and what they believe to be an unlawful arrest of a whistleblower in the community.

The march was to urgently call on police to intervene in the rising crime and drug levels in the area.

While handing over the memorandum, the party president Herman Mashaba said ActionSA stands firm against any form of drug abuse as families have been traumatised by the plague.

“No country can thrive while criminals are able to operate freely, and ActionSA is committed to turning this situation around,” he said.

“The whistleblower, Zodwa Nhlabathi, who was wrongfully arrested after the culprits’ laid charges of harassment against her has now been vindicated. In the late hours of last night during a police raid, the culprit was found in possession of illegal drugs,” said AtionSA regional secretary Tshepo Mposula.

Mposula said as ActionSA, they applaud Jabulani Police Station for bringing the perpetrator to book.

“For too long our communities have been left defenseless to the scourge of drug abuse while our political leaders stand by and do nothing,” he said.

The whistleblower, Zodwa Nhlabathi (71) told Daily Sun that she was arrested for telling on her neighbor’s son and the suspect laid charges of harassment against her.

“I am happy that the suspect is finally arrested. When I told the police about the suspect, they said I’m lying we're just having a neighbor’s dispute. Finally, the truth is out,” said Nhlabathi.
