ACTIONSA president Harman Mashaba has written a letter to Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi.
He wants the minister to urgently investigate how the husband of Free State's Setsoto Mayor Seipati Lebusa-Mbiwe managed to gain a South African citizenship irrespective of being involved in criminal activities. Mashaba also demands to know why the husband was not deported to his home country.
Mashaba spokeswoman Lerato Ngobeni, said the party president was made aware of the allegations when he visited the Setsoto Municipality two weeks ago.
"We heard that Mayor Lebusa-Mbiwe met her husband, who was allegedly serving a prison sentence on firearm charges, while she had a catering tender at a Ficksburg jail. The man was supposed to be deported to Nigeria, but he married to Lebusa-Mbiwe which allowed him to stay in the country.
“The Immigration Act is clear that permanent residency can be revoked if someone is declared an undesirable person if they, for example, served a prison sentence," said Lerato.
“As a party which values the rule of law, ActionSA is extremely concerned about the circumstances surrounding Lebusa-Mbiwe’s marriage and how the man managed to stay in the country. We therefore want Minister Motsoaledi to urgently investigate these damning allegations."

Ngobeni said that it's because of the breakdown of the rule of law in South Africa that communities across the country take the law into their own hands, and she made reference to the recent protest taking place in Diepsloot, Joburg.
"The alleged marriage of the mayor is just one more example. No country can prosper, create jobs or improve the lives of its people if the rule of law is allowed to disintegrate as we have seen in South Africa. We are committed to turning the situation around and doing the difficult work of fixing the country," she said.
Regional secretary of the ANC in Setsoto, Jeff Mohapi, told Daily Sun that the party will launch its own investigations into the matter to find the truth surrounding those allegations.
"The allegations have also been levelled to say the mayor herself is a Lesotho foreign national. We will do our investigations and decide thereafter," he said
