City of Tshwane council speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana has dismissed ActionSA's motion of no confidence against him.

AFTER a failed attempt to establish a motion of no confidence against City of Tshwane council speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana on Thursday, 29 June, ActionSA Tshwane region said it will now head to court.

The party will do so in an attempt to overturn Ndzwanana's “unlawful” decision to reject their motion of no confidence against him. This is the second time the speaker has dismissed a motion of no confidence brought against him by the same party.

ActionSA Tshwane regional chairwoman, Jackie Mathabathe, said Ndzwanana has been using frivolous rules to shield himself from democratic accountability.

“Our approach to the courts is premised on the reality that the multi-party coalition in Tshwane will not achieve stability with an ANC/EFF-sponsored speaker at the helm to facilitate their unlawful power grabs.

“The shenanigans are characteristic of the EFF-ANC unholy alliance and it's a clear indication that if Ndzwanana is left to preside over council, the work of council will continue to be frustrated, thereby reducing the efficient operations of the city,” she said.

Mathabathe said ActionSA will not allow the City of Tshwane council to disintegrate into chaos.

She said Ndzwanana got the speaker's job thanks to a dubious EFF-ANC agreement in which the two voted for small and minority parties in an attempt to destabilise coalition governments before the 2024 national and provincial elections.

ActionSA will continue to place the needs of the residents of Tshwane first, and will not allow the ANC and EFF to get away with playing political games. We believe that the courts are the only remaining option and we look forward to the matter being resolved soon.
Meanwhile, the Lotus Gardens, Atteridgeville and the Saulsville Civic Association (Lasca) has described the motion of no confidence against the speaker as a plot to derail a bill designed to scrap the issuing of "estimated bills".

Lasca chairman Tshepo Mahlangu said: “We are convinced that the DA-led (opposition) coalition will do anything to subject black townships to poverty. Tshwane residents will dethrone any party that believes they are entitled to our rates and taxes,” he said.
