A SEX-WORKER from Sebokeng in the Vaal wants justice after she was allegedly raped on Tuesday, 21 March.

She said that in the seven years she has been working in this field, she has never had anyone force themselves on her.

The woman said what hurts the most is that police were not doing anything about it.

The 38-year-old woman said she didn't even receive a case number. She claimed she could tell by the cop's facial expression that she wasn't interested in what she had reported.

She said this man pretended to be a client only to force himself onto her. She said he found her in her usual spot, and they went to her room.

The sex worker said when they arrived in the room, she named her prices, but she was shocked when the man told her that he wouldn't pay.

"He started ripping off my clothes and raped me," she said.

After he was done raping her, he allegedly told her that this was the punishment her for being a sex worker.

"He also threatened to kill me if I told anyone about the incident, but I want justice," said sex worker.

She said that after she left, she went to the police station to open a case and then went to the doctor who took tests.

On Monday, 27 March she called the police to inquire about the status of her case, but was allegedly told that sergeant handling her case was on leave.

"They are not interested in helping me because they obviously think I deserve this," she said.

Sindisiwe Mkhize of the Asijiki organisation said she was not surprised that the woman had not received help.

"Like many other people in Mzansi, these police think sex workers have no rights," she said.

She said she was disappointed but promised to help the woman push the case. Mkhize also said she would organise counselling for her.

Daily Sun spoke to Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, who advised the woman to go to the police station and speak to the station commander, she'll get assisted.
