RESIDENTS of the Nhlungwana area in Inanda, north of Durban, are living in fear.

This after four people were brutally killed in the area in just two days.

On Tuesday, 16 April, three people were killed. Two of them, a man and a woman, were found lying dead on the road while another man was found dead in his home, a few metres away from where the two were found.

This tragic incident follows another one which happened on Monday, 15 April, where a man was also shot dead a few metres away from where the two were found.

A resident told Daily Sun that it's now starting to worry them because to them it's clear that thugs are starting trouble in their area.

"We fear that they will continue with killing as they have started. We hope cops will be able to catch these thugs before they kill more people," said the resident.

Another resident said she was thinking of moving to another area because these thugs had shown they were out to kill anyone, even defenseless women.

KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said cops have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who shot and killed three people and attempted to kill another at Nhlungwane area in Inanda in the early hours of Tuesday, 16 April.

"Police responded to reports of a shooting on Mpunzi Road and upon arrival, two bodies of a man, believed to be in his early 40s and a 24-year-old woman were found lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene," he said.

He said a few metres away from the first crime scene, another body of a man, believed to be 50, was found dead inside his cottage room, also with gunshot wounds. His neighbour was also shot at but survived unharmed.

"Information at police disposal at this stage suggests that unknown number of suspects shot the man and a woman and proceeded to a nearby house where they demanded keys for a minibus taxi from female occupants of the house," he said.

He said the females escaped unharmed and the suspects took the spare key of the minibus taxi.

"The same suspects are believed to have continued to the cottages down the road, where they shot the third victim and took original keys before driving off with the minibus taxi. The minibus taxi was found abandoned in the Ntuzuma area," he said.

He said on Monday evening, 15 April, a man was shot and killed a few metres from where the man and the woman were killed. It is not yet clear if the incident is linked to the triple murder.

"Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects or any information that may assist in the investigation is urged to contact the nearest police station or call the CrimeStop number 08600 10111," he said.
