FAMILY, friends, pupils and residents turned up in numbers to bid farewell to murdered teacher, Palesa Mofokeng, who was laid to rest at Unitaspark Memorial Park in Vereeniging on Saturday, 13 April.

Palesa (33), who was a teacher at Riverside High School, was shot more than eight times on Friday morning, 5 April. She was shot on her way to work.

Her ex-husband and three other suspects were arrested on the same day in connection with her murder. They appeared in court on Monday, 8 April.

Family representative, Buti Mathibela said it has been tough for the family after Palesa's murder. “Her daughter always asks about her mother. It's very sad that the child no longer has a mother,” he said.

Buti said it's very painful that Palesa was killed by four men who allegedly knew her very well and this tells that gender-based violence is a big problem in the country.

Mourners at the funeral asked pastors to pray for the Vaal because of the many killings taking place in the area every week.
