ZANDILE Khumalo broke down again as she testified in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case.

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial started afresh at the North Gauteng High Court in Tshwane on Tuesday, 18 July.

The state prosecutor started by calling the first witness who is Kelly Khumalo's sister, Zandie Khumalo, to the stand.

Zandie is one of the people who were in the house when the slain former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was gunned down during an alleged botched robbery at the home of his then girlfriend and baby mama, Kelly Khumalo in October 2014.

She told the court that, she, her sister Kelly, her mother Gladness Khumalo, Longwe Twala, Mthokozisi Thwala, Tumelo Madlala and Kelly’s two children we sitting in the lounge while Kelly was busy making jokes.

She said moments later she saw the kitchen door open and got closed.

"Then I saw the kitchen door opening. I then peeped to see who it was because the person didn't knock," she said.

Zandie said she then saw the two intruders, the short one with dreads was in front of the taller one and the short one pointed a gun at them and said they should take out money and cellphones.

She said Kelly ran into her bedroom and the second intruder chased after her.

Zandie told the court that Longwe, who was her boyfriend at the time stood up as she was seated next to him and pushed the accused with the dreadlocks and ran off the house.

She said they then all stood up and fought off the intruders, and before she knew it, Kelly was also assisting in pushing off the intruders.

She told the court that she saw Tumelo’s crutches which she tried to use in hitting the second intruder, but she couldn’t reach and that’s when Tumelo took it and hit him.

Zandie said they then heard a gunshot and that is when she ran into the bathroom. While she was there she heard two other shots but the last one was not as loud as the other two.

She said after that it was silent in the house she went out and that is when she found Senzo bleeding.

The singer broke down a bit when she told the court how she tried to call the police after Meyiwa was shot but her mind froze.

“I tried to dial 10111 but I froze, and I then went out to MaPhiri’s house to ask for help. There was a car outside MaPhiri’s house and Nthabiseng was there. I am not sure of how she relates with MaPhiri but they are relatives,” she said.

She said Maphiri called Nthabiseng to be the one to make the call.

“Both of them were crying and I then realised I wasn’t getting any help. I then went back to the house. There I found Mthoko, Khaya and Bulani helping to carry Senzo into the car,” she said.

Before the trial could got underway, the proceedings started off with the indictment being read.

The five-murder accused Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli were given a chance plead on the charges brought against them.

The accused face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a license and possession of ammunition.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and also opted to remain silent, in terms of giving their plea explanation.

The State Prosecutor, Advocate George Baloyi, told the court that they will be leading evidence, by calling on witnesses to come testify including all those who were in the house, the neighbors, ballistic experts, cellphone analysist, photographers, and forensic experts, amongst other people.

The matter has been adjourned until tomorrow Wednesday, 19 July.
