THE trial of the five men accused of murdering former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa is expected to resume in the North Gauteng High Court on Tuesday, 18 July.

On Monday, 17 July, the new judge presiding over the case, Justice Ratha Mokgoatlheng, said the trial is starting over again.

He read the accused their rights in terms of Section 35 of the Criminal Procedure Act and explained the rights to them.

“Because it is a new trial, your rights need to be explained to you again. You also have to plead again before the trial starts,” said the judge.

State prosecutor, Advocate George Baloyi, asked the judge for the matter to stand down until the following day due matters of legal aid and the pre-trial conference.

On Tuesday, the state said the pre-trial conference has been concluded and they will be reading the new charges faced by the five men.
