MZANSI is literally three months into 2024 and one would easily say we have lived through the entire 12 months of the year already as the country has had a pretty busy introduction into the year.
In February, the country heard manifestos from different political parties who somewhat offered a glimpse of what Mzansi will look like should they win the elections.
One of the topics that often came to the spotlight was on the possible increase changes to social grants.
This gave many South Africans not only something to talk about but a choice to weigh their options on which political party might have their best interests at heart.
As promises continue to marinade, Daily Sun reflects on some of the promises made by politicians on the status of SRD R350 and other Sassa social grants.

On 10 February, EFF leader Julius Malema launched the party's election manifesto at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban where he vowed to double the social grants payments if elected to power.
This would result in significant increases, with grants for older persons and people living with disabilities potentially doubling from R2 090 to R4 180 per month, and the child support grant potentially rising from R510 to R1 020.
Meanwhile, the DA kept a few rands out of their promise. The party stressed their fight to lift "six million people out of poverty". On 17 February, DA leader John Steenhuisen on Union Buildings lawns promised social grants for pregnant women aiming to support child nutrition goals.
The DA said the child support grant would go from R510 to R760, while other social grants would remain unchanged.
Although the ANC has also promised significant increases in existing social grants, they were mum on the exact amount of increases.
