A FIGHT between two pupils from a school in Samora Machel, Western Cape ended in death.

This is after a grade 10 pupil allegedly stabbed a grade 11 pupil in the neck, leading to his death on the school premises on Wednesday, 15 November.

According to a pupil, the stabbing was revenge for an incident that happened on Tuesday, 14 November, after school.

“The deceased grade 11 learner stabbed the grade 10 learner yesterday when we were on our way home. He stabbed him in the face, and he went home bleeding. Today, after they confronted each other in the schoolyard, the grade 10 learner pulled out a knife and stabbed the grade 11 learner, and he fell on the ground,” said the pupil.

She believes that the pupil who was stabbed on Tuesday wanted his revenge.

Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) spokeswoman Bronagh Hammond confirmed the incident.

“I can sadly confirm that a grade 11 learner succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed in the neck by a grade 10 learner. The incident followed another incident yesterday (Tuesday), in which the grade 11 learner had allegedly stabbed the grade 10 learner in the cheek after school in the community,” Hammond said.

It's unclear what the fight was about and the motive for this incident.

“Unfortunately, the grade 10 learner approached the grade 11 learner this morning, and after a few words were said, he took out a knife and allegedly stabbed him in the neck.

"Paramedics were called in, but unfortunately, the learner passed away.

"The WCED immediately sent officials to the school to provide support and counselling.

“The alleged perpetrator had fled the scene. This is a SAPS investigation,” said Hammond.

Samora Machel police spokesman Constable Siviwe Gaqa said according to information gathered by the cops, the deceased, a 19-year-old pupil, allegedly stabbed the 17-year-old pupil with scissors on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old allegedly then carried a knife to school, which he used to stab the deceased.

“It's alleged that when the learners arrived at school today, the deceased wanted to continue with yesterday’s squabble, and a fight broke between the two. The 17-year-old pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the deceased,” said Gaqa.

He said that investigations are ongoing.
